Be a Foreign Exchange Student at Santa Barbara High School! Santa Barbara High School (also known as ("SBHS") founded in 1875, is the third oldest high school in California. SBHS is a California Distinguished Blue Ribbon School and is ranked in the top 5% in Academic Performance Index in the Nation.  In addition to a wide range of traditional course offerings, SBHS is home to three academies, which operate much like a “school within a school”. Students looking for a creative outlet can choose from three long standing academies—the first studies Visual Arts and Design (known as VADA), and the second studies Multimedia Arts and Design, or (MAD) and the third studies  Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Academy (STEM). SBHS also promotes student expression through its award winning Performing Arts Department, of consisting theatre/musical theatre under the direction of Otto Layman; Vocal Music under the direction of Nadia Stehmeier; the award winning Marching Band, the Marching Dons, and other instrumental musical groups under the direction of Charles Ortega. The theater at Santa Barbara has a long and storied history, having been performed continuously for over a hundred years. 


AP Classes: Exchange Students may be eligible to take Advanced Placement courses and receive college credits in subject like: Studio Art, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Government & Politics, Environmental Science, Physics, European History, Macro/Micro Economics, US History, French, Latin, Spanish 

Honors Classes:  Many Exchange students often take honors courses : English Language & Composition, Algebra/Trigonometry, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Chemistry


Athletics & Extra-Curricular Activities

Arts:  As a foreign exchange student you can chose as an elective: Drawing, Sculpture, Video/TV Production, Jazz Ensemble, band, Instrumental Percussion, Playwriting, Stagecraft, Music Appreciation, Vocal Ensemble, Theater, Music Theory, Painting, photography, Fine Art

Athletics: Foreign Exchange Students may try out to be part of the team for many sports SBHS offers: Baseball , Softball , Basketball , Cross Country, Football , Golf , Soccer , Swimming , Tennis, Volleyball, Water Polo, Wrestling 

Santa Barbara High School is widely known nationally for its achievements in athletics. While many schools celebrate league championships, Santa Barbara High School only recognizes CIF and California State Championships. The Dons went to five CIF finals in the 2007–2008 year alone. Santa Barbara has a rich history of CIF championships as well. The school has 51 titles to their name as well as many runners-up. 
In 2014 the girls' basketball team, coached by Andrew Butcher, won the CIF 3A Southern Section and was the state champion runner up.
