Public High School (F-1 Visa)
IACE offers international students the opportunity to study for one academic school year or one semester as per the US Department of State. IACE provides guardian and sponsorship and with the recommendation of IACE can help students gain acceptance. At IACE we chose schools that offer great education but also a great atmosphere to live and study. We also place our students with host families in a caring, safe and nurturing environment that live close to school, provide monitoring to both student and host family and provide medical insurance for the academic school year. Students are required to take 4 academic class as well as two electives. Our schools provide a variety of elective classes, sports, clubs and after school activities. Under the Public School F-1 Visa Program, students can attend a public high school for one year. At the end of one year, they may continue their education by transferring their F-1 Visa status to a private school or to a College or University. If a student would like to apply to study at a private high school, after completing their first academic school year at a public school, IACE has a strong relationship with many highly academic top private high schools in the area where the student can continue their education.
All public schools that IACE offers are California Distinguished Blue Ribbon High Schools with a California Academic Performance Index (API) of a 800+ out of 900 and are in the top 7% of all California High Schools - They are known as "Home of Academic Excellence".
Studying at a top ranking high school provides many opportunities. It can be very difficult for a international student to adjust to being taught and lectured only in English and to get accustomed to the American school system and what is expected. By attending a public school for one year this allows a student to become more proficient in English and prepare the student for private school applications. Also, public schools require ELTiS, SLATE, TOEFL Jr or TOEFL iBT test scores. This is to determine the best fit for the student in the school selection.
A minimum ELTiS 222, Slate of 4.0, TOEFL Jr. 750, TOEFL 52 will be eligible for some public schools whereas some of the other public schools might need a higher level of English because they do not offer the ESL program.
Private schools acceptance rate is higher if a student has studied one year in the United States. After completing one year at a public school, IACE will help and recommend IACE students for private school acceptance located in the area.
Under the F-1 Visa, students may stay in the United States as long as they are full -time students. IACE provides help to students through the entire process. Applications must be received 90 days before the start of school. May deadline for entrance to attend a Public High School (Applications deadline is May but the majority of schools have limited space so it is best to apply by March to ensure a space at your selected high school!)
